I really love homemade gifts. Not only does the gift itself say you care, but when it is obvious you but some time and thought into it lets the recipient know they are special! This is a gift basket I put together for my son’s preschool teacher. She gets a lot of my homemade gift baskets, one of my favorites was the first day of school apple basket. I thought for the holidays a “Sleepy Saturday” Chocolate Chip Buttermilk Pancakes basket was the way to go!
You can use anything as the container, for this one I started with one of those clementine crates you can get at the grocery store. It was the perfect size, look, and price…free! Well, with the purchase of the clementines of course. I started with the graphics. I used PicMonkey to create the tags, card, and directions for making. The details really sell it so make it cute!
I then designed the print on the bag. I used spray adhesive to glue some white cotton fabric to a piece of regular printer paper. I then printed the bag design on the fabric. Using a sewing machine I sewed the little sac together and added a drawstring. I tied on the cooking directions, and happy holidays tag. Inside the bag I included a bag of mini chocolate chips and the dry ingredients to our favorite pancake recipe. Lastly I rounded out the package with a good bottle of pancake syrup, a nice pancake flipper, and a bottle of my homemade vanilla, aged 16 months!
I think this would make a great gift thru all the winter months. Who doesn’t enjoy some hot, fresh pancakes on “Sleep Saturdays?”
Happy Pancake Flipping!
