It is already the 7th night of Hanukkah, our menorah is almost full and I have had my fill of matzoh ball soup. Since all of my family is six hours away we usually spend the first night of Hanukkah with our neighbors and friends.
This year there were 17 of us for dinner, so I did a kids table and an adult table. Normally for dinner parties the kids table is in the kitchen, then they all go play in the basement while us adults enjoy some kid free company. But since Hanukkah is a holiday about family, I squeezed all of us in our dinning/family room area.
For the table I spray painted some large pinecones with white and silver, and used them as placecard holders.
I set the table with my silver Star of David tablecloth, silver chargers, and grey and white plates. The little blue votives also have a Star of David print on them.
The beads down the center of the table is actually Christmas Tree garland I found a few years ago.
Since we were the only family attending dinner that is actually Jewish, I printed facts about Hanukkah and tied them to back of each chair. After dinner we went around the table and everyone read their fun Hanukkah fact.
And the kids table…even set by the kids, didn’t they do a great job! It’s…um…FESTIVE!
